A lot of people have been wondering whether the time has come for online resumes. Because of the great impact that the Internet has over millions of people, the question has become more pressing. Here are some of the basic facts that you need to know about online and paper resumes.

1. Content. When it comes to content, the essentials are similar. On a paper resume, the job applicant will usually list down all of his education and work background, his references, and his other credentials. On an online video resume, the job applicant will generally go mention all of the schools he has attended, the trainings and workshops he has been a part of, and his past work experiences. But while the general content is the same, one thing that online video resumes have which paper resumes do not is the actual presentation made by the job applicant.

2. Presentation. This means that you actually get to see the job applicant selling himself, instead of just reading plain text. This may not seem important at first, but in a growing number of industries, how an applicant presents himself is actually of utmost importance. In fact, the interview process is not only about questioning and digging deeper into the background of the applicant, but is attest to see how the applicant presents himself.

3. Medium. Another obvious difference between paper resumes and the online video resume is the type of media that is used. In paper resumes, the mediums used are words, text, and paper. This, obviously, is a very limited type of media. When it comes to online video résumés, however, the job applicant has other resources and media that may be used. A basic video, for example, will incorporate sounds and moving images. This allows the job applicant to express himself much better. For the employer, the chance to learn more about the job applicant is also greater. A panicky and fidgety applicant, for instance, will not shine through on a resume. But on a video resume, it will. This is a great advantage for many employers, and can actually eliminate the need for interviews.

4. Ease. Finally, the online video resumes make use of one of the most powerful technologies today – the Internet. This makes the transmission and access to online video resumes extremely easy. For instance, an employer no longer has to wait for the job applicants to file and mail their resumes. With the use of online resumes, an employer can easily and quickly access video resumes through the Internet. These video resumes have already been submitted in advance, and are just waiting for an employer’s attention. This makes the hiring process very quick and very efficient. For the job applicants, this also means that the need to send individual resumes is removed. The job applicant can upload his videos once, and then just wait for an employer to contact him.

Whether you are an employer or a job applicant, consider online video resumes as a way to complement the recruitment process. Log on to VidRes, one of the biggest online job portals that make use of video resumes instead of just the traditional text résumés.
